The results are in for HCSS’s 2nd annual estimating survey. We had 360 companies participate from across the U.S. and Canada. Here are a few highlights of the results:
Business is picking up - 76% of the companies surveyed made a profit last year, and 85% expect to do that well in 2014. 50% reported that their total volume of bids in dollars was higher or significantly higher than the previous year and only 17% noted a decline.
Private work is growing - Twice as many companies (43% vs. 20%) noted that their bidding for private work had increased over the previous year as compared to public work.
Workforces expanding - 48% of the companies plan to expand their workforce this year. 52% gave raises to their estimators last year and 67% gave raises to field employees.
Uncertain about healthcare - 92% of companies reported that they are providing healthcare insurance for estimators, although many were unsure about the future impact of ObamaCare.
